Dose

by Vinodharan Perumal

The homeopathic remedy given at a time, regardless of the quantity, is one dose. Whether it be in 1 pellet or more at a time, or 5 drops in water taken at a time - these matter not, as they are only quantities and a form of consumption - each time taking the medicine is still one dose only.

In acute diseases, the remedy may be repeated within a few hours, depending on severity. Assuming that the remedy is the right one, the first dose should have the desired effect. If some symptoms still persist due to the severity of the disease but is less intense after the first dose, the dose may be repeated. This is the case for medium potencies like 30c. If high potencies are used, avoid repetition of the dose unless and until there is no further progress (reaction/relief).

In chronic diseases, whether the remedy is of medium or high potencies, only give one dose, and wait. Within two weeks there is usually a reaction or relief, either one or both of these may be noticed. How early the reaction/relief is experienced depends on the pace of the disease and the remedy in its working. Two weeks is good enough an interval to wait for an observation. Many remedies may be seen to act in the patient within a week. Some even next day.

Note that reaction is also a sign of progress, not just the feeling of relief. Eventually, after a reaction, relief should still follow.
